Four Game Road Trip Starts In Chilliwack
Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars are back on the road, with an opportunity to grab a stronger hold of a Western Conference playoff position Friday night.
The Cougars (22-33-0-2) are in Chilliwack to face the Bruins for the seventh time this season, with one more meeting to go March 13, also in Chilliwack. The Cougars have won each of the six head-to-head clashes this season and have won seven in a row over the Bruins going back to last year. The Bruins last victory over Prince George was exactly a year ago, February 13, 2008.
The Cougars come into the game on the heels of a 5-1 loss to the Portland Winter Hawks Tuesday night, which brought an end to the Cougars three game win streak. The Cougars finished the six game home stand with a 3-3 record. The Bruins (14-37-2-4) have dropped their last 7 games, which includes back-to-back losses to the Cougars February 4 and 6. The Cats go into the game 12 points ahead of the Bruins, with each team having 14 games left to play following Friday’s action. The Cougars have outscored the Bruins 22-12 this season, with Marek Viedensky and Parker Stanfield leading the Cougars attack, each with six points against the Bruins on the year.
The Cougars penalty killers have been very strong of late, having not allowed a 5-on-4 goal in the last six games. The only power play goals scored against the Cougars over their home stand were both scored on two-man advantages by the Vancouver Giants. In the season series with Chilliwack, the Cougars have killed off 29 of 32 Bruin power plays (90.6%), while going 5-for-28 (17.9%) on the power play themselves.
Friday’s game kicks off a three game in three nights road trip for the Cougars, who will head to Kelowna Saturday and Spokane Sunday. This is the third such weekend for the Cats this season, going 2-3-0-1 when playing on three straight nights. The Cougars will be in Kennewick, Washington to finish off the road trip against the Tri-City Americans Tuesday night. The Cats next home game begins a double header with the Edmonton Oil Kings Friday, February 20 at CN Centre.
