Forward Tyler Halliday Bound for Thompson Rivers University
There’s no place like home. At least that’s the case for playing hockey next year for Cougars graduate Tyler Halliday. Halliday, a Kamloops, BC product who finished his junior career with the Cougars in March, has committed to attending school at Thompson Rivers University in his hometown in the fall, while playing for the TRU WolfPack hockey squad when the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League season gets underway in September.
r
r"It’s a good opportunity for me to play at home and to play at a strong level of hockey," said Halliday, who finished the 2009-10 season with 9 goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 66 games and posting 163 penalty minutes, suiting up for the Cougars and Kelowna Rockets during his overage season. "This is also a great chance to go to a very good school academically."
r
rHalliday became a very popular member of the Cougars during his first season with the club in 2008-09, when he started the season playing limited minutes to evolving into a key contributor for the Cougars, finishing with 15 goals. In his 111 games for the Cougars, Halliday produced 286 penalty minutes, 125 of those this past season in 45 games. Now taking a step forward in hockey, his experience in the WHL has well prepared Halliday.
r
r"Playing in the WHL helped me a lot preparing to move on in my hockey career. Just the level of play and how committed you have to be to play every single night and showing up at practice everyday. Hopefully that will help me out in the future."
r
rThe WolfPack is confident Halliday will help them out in the future, starting with the 2010-11 season. The WolfPack are coming off a tremdous initiation into the BCIHL, finishing second in both the regular season and playoffs, facing teams from the Kootenays, Okanagan, Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland. Adding Halliday is seen as a big scoop for TRU. "Having Tyler Halliday join our WolfPack hockey club is a special day for our organization," said WolfPack Head Coach Lorne Cumming. "Tyler is a player that competes in every game he plays and he has shown he can be a leader at a very high level. We are looking forward to Tyler bringing that presence into our culture as we continue to build WolfPack hockey into one of the most attractive university programs available to competitive student players."
r
rWhile attending Thompson Rivers University, Halliday plans to enter the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program in hopes of becoming an accountant.
