Cougars Youngsters Collect Points At World U-17 Challenge

Prince George Cougars prospect Wilson Dumais had a goal and Cougars defenceman Jesse Forsberg earned an assist for Team West in a 4-2 loss to Quebec on the opening day of the World Under-17 Challenge in Timmins, Ontario Tuesday.

rDumais, who leads the Tisdale Trojans of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League in scoring, scored Team West’s first goal of the tournament at the 9:24 mark of the third period to end Quebec’s shut-out bid, cutting the deficit to 4-1 with an unassisted tally.  Dumais has 14 goals and 33 points in 24 games for the Trojans this season.  At the 14:58 mark of the third, Forsberg helped set up the game’s final goal, scored by Zachery Franko, to make the score 4-2 Quebec.

rForsberg headed to Timmins with one goal and 14 assists in his rookie season with the Cougars, while also adding 79 penalty minutes in 35 games.  Eight of Forsberg’s 14 assists have come on the power play.

Forsberg, Dumais and the rest of Team West get Wednesday off before getting back into action Thursday with a game against Sweden, starting at 4:00 Pacific Time.  The tournament ends January 4, 2010.
