Brian Matte Helps Launch Spring Tournament in Prince George
Recently graduated Prince George Cougars forward Brian Matte joined Prince George-Mount Robson MLA Shirley Bond and Renee Trepanier of the Prince George Spirit of BC Committee in opening the Spirit of 2010 Prince George Atom Major Spring Hockey tournament, taking place at the Elksentre Arena.
Matte, who recorded 17 goals and 30 points in his rookie season with the Cougars in 2008-09, took part in a ceremonial face-off with Bond and Trepanier to kick off the eight team tournament, with 136 players taking part. The event is allowing the participants to play for fun and to celebrate amateur sport, physical activity and the spirit of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The Spirit of 2010 hockey tournament is the largest of its kind in Canada with more than 50,000 athletes taking part in 225 tournaments around BC.
