Spokane Chiefs 2019-20 Play of the Year
The fans have spoken, and the vote is in! Your 2019-20 Spokane Chiefs Play of the Year belongs to Chiefs defenseman Ty Smith!
The New Jersey Devils prospect set a Chiefs franchise record for points score in a game by a defenseman with eight, breaking his own record of seven, which he set during the 2018-19 season. Smith’s distinction-earning performance came on February 28, 2020 against the Seattle Thunderbirds as he netted a hat trick while adding five assists in Spokane’s 9-2 victory.
Chiefs fans have been actively participating via social media and voting for which play deserves to be dubbed the 2019-20 Play of the Year (Runner-Up) presented by Pizza Factory.
This year’s bracket was a battle for runner-up as we are preemptively crowned goaltender Lukas Parik‘s goal versus Kamloops on March 10 as the official 2019-20 Play of the Year presented by Pizza Factory. Parik’s remarkable score was the first goalie goal in Chiefs’ franchise history and marked the first time a goalie has scored and recorded a shutout in the same game in WHL history.
After three rounds of voting, our championship match-up came down to:
- Ty Smith’s “Smith’s 8PT Night” on February 28 vs. Seattle
- James Porter’s “Porter’s Shootout Shutdown” on February 29 vs. Tri-City
Thank you to everybody who voted along with us throughout the 2019-20 Play of the Year presented by Pizza Factory bracket!
