Chiefs season ends in game four versus Kamloops

Spokane, Wash.  —  The Spokane Chiefs season ended at the hands of the Kamloops Blazers on Friday night after a 3-0 loss finished their best-of-seven series with four straight Kamloops wins.

Logan Stankoven scored once in the first, second and third periods for Kamloops.  The Chiefs’ Cooper Michaluk, a 17-year-old goaltender, stopped 42 shots and earned the game’s second star.  Spokane was 6-7 on penalty kill and 0-4 on the power play.[related_links]

Sitting on the outside of the playoff picture in February, the Chiefs needed wins in five of their last seven, and one in the final game of the regular season, to put themselves in the post-season.

The loss finished the careers of Chief 20-year-olds Bear Hughes, named captain in January, and Nick McCarry.  Hughes led the Chiefs in scoring in the regular season with 24 goals and 67 points while McCarry scored 35 points in his 36 games as a Chief.
