CHIEFS WIN STREAK ENDS IN SEATTLE WITH 4-1 LOSS
The Seattle Thunderbirds scored three power play goals, two from Ryan Gropp, as Seattle snapped the Spokane Chiefs season high 5 game winning streak with a 4-1 win Sunday night in Kent, WA. The win by Seattle evened the season series between the two teams at 3-3.
Seattle scored their first goal just 3 seconds after their first power play of the game expired, as Turner Ottenbrite scored midway through the first to give the T-Birds a 1-0 lead. Gropp would notch his first of the game on Seattle’s next power play to give the Thunderbirds a 2-0 advantage. Spokane would cut the lead in half on Calder Brooks power play goal with 5.4 seconds left in the first to make it a 2-1 game after one. Kailer Yamamoto and Jason Fram picked up the assists on Brooks 11th goal of the season.
Seattle would take a 3-1 lead in the second as Sahvan Kaira scored his first goal of the year on the power play midway through the period. Seattle outshot Spokane 14-8 in the second to take a two goal lead to the third. Gropp would cap the scoring with his second power play goal of the game just 1:11 into the third period, as the Thunderbirds went 3-4 on the power play in the game against the Chiefs second ranked penalty kill unit in the league. Spokane was 1-7 on the power play as Seattle outshot Spokane 29-21 in the contest.
The Chiefs will continue their 3 game road trip with a visit to U.S. Division leading Everett Wednesday night at 7:05pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA with the pre-game show starting at 6:30pm.
