Chiefs Shut Out For First Time This Season, 6-0
Ty Lewis scored a hat trick to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 6-0 win over the Spokane Chiefs Saturday night in Brandon, Manitoba. It marked the first time this season the Chiefs had been shut out as Spokane is 0-2 on their Eastern Division road trip.
Lewis opened the scoring just over 3 1/2 minutes into the game as his backhand shot was deflected over Chiefs goalie Dawson Weatherill to give Brandon a 1-0 lead after one. Spokane out shot Brandon 14-12 in the opening period but hit a post and a cross bar to stay off the board. Much like the night before in Regina, the second period would decide the outcome of this contest, as Brandon scored 4 goals in the period. Lewis scored two of them as the Chiefs also gave up a power play and short handed goal to the Wheat Kings in the stanza.
Spokane would surrender their second short handed marker of the night and fifth over the last two games, when Connor Gutenberg scored his second goal of the contest in the third period to cap the scoring. The Chiefs were out shot 34-30 in the game, going 0-4 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill. Spokane will have 2 days off before taking to the ice again as they travel to Moose Jaw to face the Warriors Tuesday night at 6pm Pacific. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA, starting with the pre-game show at 5:30 p.m.
