Chiefs Care is committed to helping raise money for the continuing education of Chiefs’ players as well as serving the Spokane community through donations and appearances.
Chiefs Care is also committed to the building of our players as responsible citizens through education and serving the community.
For every year of hockey played with the Chiefs each player is guaranteed one year of post-secondary tuition and administrative expenses at a post-secondary institution of their choice. Players also receive the opportunity to take college courses while playing with the Chiefs. All education costs are covered by the Spokane Chiefs.
“The Chiefs have been committed to serving the community that has supported the organization for the past 29 seasons,” Chiefs Vice-President of Business Operations Mark Miles said. “We have developed strong relationships with charities in the area and we will look to grow those through raising funds and awareness for our partners.”
In the past, the Chiefs have partnered with numerous charities in the Spokane area including The Children’s Miracle Network, the Rypien Foundation, Catholic Charities Spokane and the Spokane American Youth Hockey Association (SAYHA).
All education costs are covered by the Spokane Chiefs. The 50/50 raffle facilitated by the Chiefs Booster Club each game goes directly to Chiefs Care and education costs, as do various jersey and merchandise auctions throughout the season.
Over the past year, the Chiefs have paid out over $80,000 in education costs. Former Chiefs who have taken advantage of the education program include local product Derek Ryan who earned his degree in Science at the University of Alberta and Chris Bruton, the captain of the 2008 Memorial Cup Champions, who earned a Business degree at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
Over the last five seasons, through auctions and fundraisers, the Chiefs have raised over $500,000 for local charities.
Chiefs Care will be responsible for a number of different community endeavors throughout the course of the season.
