Season in Review: Goaltenders
As we close the book on the 2020-21 Western Hockey League season–one that overcame a myriad of obstacles in order to continue player development–we take a look back at the strides made by the Chiefs on the ice.
We opened our Season in Review series by looking back at the season that was for Spokane’s rookie skaters, veteran forwards, and veteran defensemen. We conclude our Season in Review series with this year’s goaltending class.
The unexpected departure of LA Kings prospect Lukas Parik, who was released from Spokane in February to pursue an opportunity to play with the USHL’s Dubuque Fighting Saints, created an opportunity for younger Chiefs’ netminders to gain valuable experience.
#1 Campbell Arnold, G
A second-round selection by Spokane in the 2017 Bantam Draft, Arnold enjoyed a breakout 2019-20 season before an injury ended it abruptly. Far-and-away the most experienced goalie returning this season, he started 10 of the Chiefs’ 21 games this season, posting a 3.97 goals against average and .886 save percentage. The Nanaimo, BC native posted a career high 41 saves against Portland on April 10.
#30 Mason Beaupit, G
Recently named the Chiefs’ 2020-21 Rookie of the Year, Beaupit exploded onto the scene this season, emerging as one of the league’s premiere up-and-coming netminders. He posted a 3.24 goals against average and racked up 348 saves in 10 games this season–a .916 save percentage–good for second in the U.S. Division. A 55-save effort in the season finale against Seattle on May 9 put the stamp on an impressive breakout season.

#31 Manny Panghli, G
The second-youngest Chief on the roster this season, Panghli was a late addition to the roster, inking a WHL Standard Player Agreement in late February. A native of Kamloops, BC, Panghli saw action in three games this season, highlighted by a 33-save effort on April 28 against Tri-City when he earned a victory in his first career Western Hockey League start. He ended the season with a 3.55 goals against average and .886 save percentage.
