Saige Weinstein and Kooper Gizowski win Capital City Challenge championship
Spokane Chiefs rookies Saige Weinstein and Kooper Gizowski both helped Team Canada Black secure a thrilling 5-4 overtime win over Canada Red at the 2021 Capital City Challenge in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on Wednesday. The four-team tournament pitted Hockey Canada’s best U-17 players against each other.
Weinstein was the Chiefs’ first-round pick (18th overall) in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft while Gizowski was Spokane’s second-round (40th overall). Both came out of Edmonton’s Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) program.
Gizowski scored a goal and an assist in the tournament with both players playing all five games. Canada Black went undefeated in the preliminary round before back-to-back overtime wins in the tournament round to secure the championship. [related_links]
