Prospect Watch: Chenier Wins Scoring Title, Gallagher Joins Chiefs, Chorney Gets Hats
Spokane Chiefs prospect Cedric Chenier (pictured above) capped an outstanding 2016-17 regular season with the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League scoring title. The Winnipeg Wild forward scored two goals in the Wild’s regular season finale against the Yellowhead Chiefs to become the league’s top scorer with 30 goals and 35 assists for 65 points in 34 games. The Wild earned a first-place finish in the MMHL with at 35-6-0-3 record for 73 points. They’ll begin postseason play against the eighth-seeded Parkland Rangers on Friday, February 24.
A 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward out of Winnipeg, Chenier was a ninth round (185th overall) pick by the Chiefs in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.

Defenseman Luke Gallagher (2000) will join the Chiefs’ roster for the remainder of the 2016-17 season. Originally an eighth round (163rd overall) pick by the Chiefs in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft, Gallagher spent the 2016-17 season with the Spokane Braves of the KIJHL, racking up 37 points (13 goals, 24 assists) in 45 games.
The Mead, Washington native suited up for the Chiefs earlier this season, on November 26 versus Edmonton.

Carter Chorney (2001), who was the Chiefs’ third pick (second round, 39th overall) in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, capped his 2016-17 regular season with a hat trick as his Sherwood Park J. Ennis Kings fell to the Calgary Royals, 5-3. The Kings earned the best regular season record in the Alberta AAA Midget Hockey League at 23-8-3. Chorney, a 6-foot, 176-pound forward from Sherwood Park, was third on the team with 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) and first among 2001-born players.
