Eli Zummack Sticks With Chiefs
SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Chiefs announced today that rookie forward Eli Zummack will remain with the club indefinitely. Zummack was originally called up prior to the Chiefs’ game at Kamloops on November 23.
“Eli’s development has shown a significant improvement since training camp with his play with the Okanagan Rockets,” said Chiefs General Manager Scott Carter. “We feel he is ready to contribute to the Chiefs moving forward.”
Zummack, a 16-year-old center from Kelowna, B.C., was acquired in a trade with the Red Deer Rebels in January 2016. He was originally selected in the second round (36th overall) in the 2015 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound playmaker has two points in five WHL games. He scored his first career WHL goal against Vancouver on November 25 and added his first assist the next night versus Edmonton. Before last week’s call-up, he had previously appeared in two games for the Chiefs (in mid-October) before rejoining the Okanagan Rockets of the British Columbia Major Midget League, where he recorded six goals and 14 assists in 10 games this season.
Zummack also joined Chiefs teammates Ty Smith and Koby Morrisseau at the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge earlier this year as he and Smith helped Team Canada Black to a silver medal finish.
