Smith And Zummack Earn Silver At U-17 Worlds
Spokane Chiefs defenseman Ty Smith and prospect forward Eli Zummack partnered up for Canada Black’s only goal in a 2-1 loss to Sweden on Saturday, November 5 in the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Ontario. The loss in the final game of the tournament earned Smith and Zummack silver medals.
Zummack deflected Smith’s shot to open the scoring for the game at the 15:44 mark of the first period. Sweden stormed back midway through the second to tie it at 1-1 before scoring the eventual game-winner just under four minutes into the final frame.
Fellow Chief Koby Morrisseau narrowly missed out on a medal as his Canada White team lost to Russia in the bronze medal game earlier on Saturday, 6-1.
Smith, who served as team captain for Canada Black, finished the tournament with two goals and two assists. Zummack scored once and added an assist for Canada Black while Morrisseau didn’t record a point in six games with Canada White.
