2020 Overage Week: Noah King
With the final games of the regular season cancelled, the Chiefs did not have the opportunity to recognize our graduating overage players in-person at Spokane Arena, as is tradition. We’d like to take this opportunity to recognize each of these players for their outstanding Western Hockey League careers and contributions to the Spokane Chiefs’ franchise history during Overage Week presented by Avista Utilities.
Next up is strong and steady defenseman Noah King.
King was acquired by the Chiefs from the Swift Current Broncos on Dec. 4, 2018 and immediately slotted in across from team captain Ty Smith on the team’s first defensive pairing.
Standing 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, King provided size and outstanding defensive instincts to the Chiefs’ blue line, perhaps best exemplified by his WHL-leading plus-60 rating for the 2019-20 season.
King played a stay-at-home role for the majority of his career, with five goals and 14 assists in 135 career contests entering his overage season. He showed a new side to his game in his final campaign, potting six goals and adding 34 assists for a career-best 40 points in 64 games.
A WHL Champion with the Broncos, King boasts 48 career playoff games, including 26 during Swift Current’s dominant title run in 2018 under current Chiefs head coach Manny Viveiros and the Chiefs’ deep push to the 2019 Western Conference Championship series.
King was drafted by Swift Current in the 10th round of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft and made his WHL debut on Sept. 23, 2016. In total, the always-smiling big man finishes his WHL career with 199 regular season games played, 11 goals, 48 assists, 59 points and a plus-38 rating.
Congratulations on an outstanding WHL career, Noah! The Spokane Chiefs thank you for your hard work, dedication and contributions both on and off the ice. Once a Chief, always a Chief.
