The Chiefs are 15-12-3-0 after a dramatic, come-from-behind win in Portland last night. The win snapped a 5-game losing streak for Spokane, who is currently in 4th Place in the U.S. Division, 2 points behind 3rd Place Tri-City.
The Chiefs host the Prince George Cougars for the 2nd and final time this season. The Cougars came away with a 6-2 win in the first matchup as Jari Erricson and David Soltes each scored twice for the visitors. Prince George jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Liam Stewart scored his 1st of 2 goals on the night for Spokane.
Prince George is led offensively by Jansen Harkins (10-25-35) and Chase Witala (17-17-34). St. Louis Blues prospect Zach Pochiro has 5 goals and 7 assists in just 9 games since returning to the club. Rookie Tavin Grant (9 GP, 4.92 GAA, .827 SV%) and second-year goaltender Ty Edmonds (28 GP, 3.56 GAA, .888 SV%) patrol the crease.
The Cougars are the most penalized team in the WHL with 656 penalty minutes through 32 games (20.5 average per game). Their penalty kill ranks last in the league, allowing 52 goals in 176 situations (70.5% PK%).
The Cougars are 3rd in the B.C. Division with a 17-15-0-0 record despite being outscored 101-128 on the year. They are on a 4-game winning streak, including last night’s 3-1 win over U.S. Division leader Everett. Witala, Harkins and defenseman Tate Olson scored for the Cougars (all in the 3rd Period).
