Third period surge vaults TPH past Halton
Three third period goals powered TPH Hockey to a 5-2 victory over the Halton Hurricanes.
Tevor O’Donohue (1) opened the scoring for TPH before Brady Smith (3) would tie the game thirty seconds into the second. TPH would have the lead once again, with a goal from Jackson Hone (1) late in the second until Halton’s Tyler Hopkins (3) would even it up at two apiece with a beautiful backhand goal.
Cole Peters (1), Landon Nycz (1), and Andrew Smulkstys (1) would all score in the final frame to give TPH the 5-2 lead. Halton scored late in the third on the power play with a goal from Tanner Lam (3), but TPH was able to hold on for the victory.
In a back and forth game against a highly offensive team, Peters described his team’s performance saying, “Our group played a good all around game, our team hasn’t been together that long, but everyone’s come together and it’s good to get the win.”
“It’s just been great meeting new guys, competing and winning together, it’s been a great experience,” added Peters, with TPH being a team made up of players from teams across the United States.
TPH will take on the GTHL champion Toronto Marlboros this evening at 5:15 pm. Halton wraps up their round robin play with a record of 2-2, being led offensively by Lam (3-3–6) and Smith (3-3–6) throughout the preliminary round.
