Majors edge Wolves 1-0
Scoreless heading into the third period, the Markham Majors prevailed as they defeated the Waterloo Wolves 1-0. The Wolves fought their way into the the 2022 OHL Cup powered by Under Armour in a wild card victory against the Windsor Jr. Spitfires on Tuesday night.
Anthony Giacalone (1) scored the lone goal of the game, as Majors’ netminder Jacob Gibbons was perfect in the crease, stopping all 23 shots for the shutout win.
“It was an amazing game, the team played really well. Everyone was skating hard and creating chances with shots on net,” said Gibbons.
“It was a great team effort.”
Landon Terrebroodt was stellar in the Waterloo crease, giving his team a chance to win with 21 saves on 22 shots.
The Majors finished fourth in GTHL regular-season play to earn their way back into the showcase for the first time since 2011.
Markham is back in action tonight against the Thunder Bay Kings at 9:15pm. Waterloo takes on the Huron Perth Lakers at 7:00pm.
