Remembering Mickey Renaud
Sunday, February 18, 2018, marked the 10-year anniversary of the tragic loss of Windsor Spitfires captain Mickey Renaud.
The 19-year-old from Tecumseh, Ont., was in the midst of his third OHL season in February, 2008, and leading his hometown Spitfires when he died suddenly of an underlying heart condition.
The Spitfires retired Renaud’s number 18 jersey ahead of the 2008-09 season and remember him with a game played in his honour every February on the anniversary of his passing.

“He was truly the ultimate teammate and it was a pleasure to be part of his life,” says current Spitfires assistant Mike Weber who played alongside Renaud in 2005-06 and part of the 2006-07 season. “We play for him, we play with him, always.”
Later this season will mark the tenth presentation of the league’s Mickey Renaud Captain’s Trophy presented annually since 2009 to the OHL captain who best exemplifies the character and commitment that Mickey displayed during his career with the Spitfires.
