Knights’ Brett Brochu named OHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Brett Brochu of the London Knights is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, going 2-0 with a pair of shutout victories.
Brochu helped the Knights to a 4-1 second round series win over the rival Kitchener Rangers last week. The overage netminder turned aside all 25 shots he faced on Tuesday night as London blanked the Rangers in a 5-0 road win. He posted his second shutout of the series on Thursday, stopping all 16 shots that came his way as the Knights defeated Kitchener 4-0 to clinch their spot in the Western Conference Championship Series against the Sarnia Sting. This marks Brochu’s third OHL Goaltender of the Week honour this season as he set a pair of Knights playoff records, becoming the first goaltender in club history to record three shutouts in a single playoff run, while his fourth pushed him ahead of Tyler Parsons for the most in Knights all-time playoff history.
A 20-year-old from Belle River, Ont., Brochu played to a 28-17-2-0 record with a 2.82 goals-against average and .902 save percentage in 47 games played this past season. The reigning Jim Rutherford OHL Goaltender of the Year Award recipient will graduate with 89 regular season career victories, the second-most in London Knights franchise history. He posted a 2.67 goals-against average and .910 save percentage over 132 career regular season games, and also set a new OHL record for wins by a rookie goaltender with 32 in 2019-20. Brochu was London’s sixth round (114th overall) pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. He attended training camp with the Vancouver Canucks this past September.
