IceDogs’ Assistant Coach Mike Van Ryn Headed to Houston Aeros
Niagara IceDogs assistant coach Mike Van Ryn has left the IceDogs organization to accept an assistant coach position with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League, affiliate of the Minnesota Wild. Van Ryn leaves the IceDogs after joining Marty Williamson’s staff as a rookie coach this past season, having been forced to retire from the NHL due to injury. In their first season as a coaching staff, Marty, Mike and Billy Burke helped lead the team to the most successful season in IceDogs history, with a 45-17-2-4 record.
The entire IceDogs organization would like to thank Mike for his time with the organization and wish him all the best in Houston.
With Mike’s departure, the IceDogs have called a press conference for this Thursday, August 4th, at 10:30am to announce the hiring of a new assistant coach.
