Gens and Heart & Stroke Foundation team up for 2nd annual Pucks 4 Heart
The Oshawa Generals and the Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) are teaming up for the second annual Pucks 4 Heart game as the Generals take on the Ottawa 67’s. A night dedicated to raising awareness and funds for life saving research, the puck drops at 7:35pm on Friday, February 14 at General Motors Centre.
Former Oshawa General star and HSF ambassador Brett MacLean will be returning to drop the puck and show his support. Brett played for the Generals from 2005 to 2008, appearing in 164 games totaling 121 goals and 257 points in that time. He also played professionally in the American Hockey League and National Hockey League before his career was tragically cut short when he experienced a cardiac emergency. Brett now actively campaigns for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and CPR awareness.
Brett is very excited to be on board again this season “It is a great honour that I get the opportunity to be a part of this special event for the 2nd year in a row. Obviously with what happened to me, heart health is very important to me so any opportunity I get to raise awareness and create support for this cause is great. I am taking part in this special night because I feel it is important to raise awareness for heart health at any opportunity I can. To be able to do it with the Oshawa Generals organization, fans and the city that was so great to me and brought me some of my greatest hockey memories is extremely special to myself and my family”.
Last year the Pucks 4 Heart event raised over $10,000 in support of the HSF, and they plan on surpassing that number this year. To raise money the Generals will be wearing commemorative jerseys which will be auctioned off after the game—proceeds supporting the HSF. The fan favorite ‘chuck a puck’ promotion will take place during the 2nd intermission and will give fans an opportunity to walk away with a $500 gift card to the Oshawa Centre.
Individual tickets are being sold at the discounted price of $17.50, and the Generals will be donating one dollar from every ticket sold to support the cause. “We are proud as an organization to be able to work with and support such a worthy cause as heart and stroke research,” commented Rocco Tullio, President and Governor for the Oshawa Generals. “We are proud as an organization to be able to work with and support such a worthy cause as heart and stroke research” commented Rocco Tullio, President and Governor of the Oshawa Generals.
