Bulls’ Malcolm Subban signs with Boston Bruins

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Bruins committed to Malcolm Subban on Thursday, signing the Bulls’ netminder to an entry-level NHL deal after selecting him 24th overall in June’s NHL Entry Draft.

Subban, who has quickly emerged as a fan favourite in Belleville after being the club’s 11th round pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection, has followed in the footsteps of his older brother P.K., a star blueliner for the Montreal Canadiens after a successful OHL career in Belleville.

In his two full seasons with the Bulls, Subban has combined to go 35-31-0-2 with a 2.78 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. Subban led OHL goaltenders in shootout percentage last season, turning aside all twelve of the attempts he faced as the Bulls went 3-0 with him in the crease for shootout contests.

Internationally, Subban represented Team Canada in the 2012 Canada/Russia Challenge this past summer, posting a 2-0 record with a 1.95 goals against average and a .918 save percentage. He’ll be a frontrunner in the fight to seize a goaltending job with Canada in the World Junior Hockey Championships this December in Ufa, Russia.

Subban is a three-time Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week and was the OHL’s Vaughn Goaltender of the Month last November. Away from the rink, he was the Bulls’ nominee for the 2012 Roger Neilson Award, awarded to the OHL’s top academic player in post-secondary studies.

Subban becomes the second Bulls player in past weeks to sign an NHL contract after the Vancouver Canucks inked Brendan Gaunce to an entry-level deal on August 13th.
