Staal named OHL Player of the Week
The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Peterborough Petes’ centre Eric Staal is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday February 23 after scoring four goals and four assists for eight points in three games.
Staal assisted on the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over the Belleville Bulls on February 20. He added a goal and two assists in a 7-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves and concluded the week with a hat trick – including a short-handed goal – and an assist in an 8-3 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on February 23.
The 18-year-old Thunder Bay native, who is the top rated North American prospect for the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, is tied for fifth in the OHL scoring race with 34 goals and 54 assists for 88 points in 58 games.
