Second overall U18 Priority Selection choice Calem Mangone commits to Spirit
Saginaw, MI – Saginaw Spirit general manager Dave Drinkill announced Wednesday the club has signed their first-round pick from the 2021 Under-18 Priority Selection, Calem Mangone (Man-go-nee) to a Standard Player Agreement.
“As an organization, we are very happy Calem has committed to our program here in Saginaw,” said GM Drinkill. We are thrilled to be able to add a player with the skills, work ethic, and character that Calem possesses. I look forward to seeing him on the ice very soon. On behalf of our staff, we welcome Calem and his family to the Spirit.”
The 5-foot-9, 160-pound right-wing from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was sidelined last season due to the cancellation of Minor Hockey in Ontario. He played the 2019-20 season for his hometown, Soo Greyhounds U18’s, scoring 13 goals and adding 11 assists for 24 points in 27 games.
“When my name was called (in the U-18 Draft) it was a surreal moment,” said Mangone. “Signing the contract was a huge relief because playing in the OHL is something I have been working toward for a long time. Playing for a first-class organization like Saginaw is a dream come true. They were the team I was hoping would pick me and now signing is a huge thrill. I am excited to get down to Saginaw and meet the fans and become acquainted with the community. I am looking forward to the opportunity to get on the ice with my teammates and pushing myself to become an elite OHL player.”
Calem Mangone will wear No. 7 for the Spirit this upcoming 2021-22 OHL season.
