Rogers Championship Series Game 7 Today

The Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors host the Owen Sound Attack at 2:00 pm at the Hershey Centre for Game 7 of the Rogers OHL Championship Series.

The Majors won the first two games of the series before the Attack won two straight in overtime to even things up at 2-2.  The Majors won Game five on home ice on Tuesday night, and then facing elimination on Thursday the Attack emerged with a 3-2 win to force the seventh and deciding game.

The Majors have outscored the Attack 26-18 throug six games.

The Wayne Gretzky 99 Award will also be presented on Sunday to the MVP of the 2011 OHL Playoffs. 

Robby Mignardi leads the Attack and the OHL in playoff scoring with 15 goals and nine assists for 24 points in 21 games.  Joey Hishon and Garrett Wilson have 23 points and 21 points respectively.  For the Majors, Devante Smith-Pelly leads the club with 15 goals and six assists for 21 points in 19 games, while Justin Shugg, Maxim Kitsyn, and Casey Cizikas all have 19 points. 

After winning the franchise’s first Bobby Orr Trophy as Eastern Conference Champions, the Majors are looking for their first Robertson Cup title since 1961 when they were the St. Michael’s College Majors.  The Attack earned their first Wayne Gretzky Trophy as Western Conference Champions and are now competing for their first OHL title since moving to Owen Sound in 1989. 

Both teams will compete in the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup May 20-29 at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, ON, along with the Kootenay Ice who captured the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL Champions with a five-game series win over the Portland Winterhawks.  In the QMJHL, the Saint John Sea Dogs lead the Gatineau Olympiques 3-2 with Game six set for Sunday night.
