OHL Announces Disciplinary Action
The Ontario Hockey League today announced the result of its review of certain incidents which occurred in a playoff game played in Guelph, Ontario, on March 26th, 2002, between the Guelph Storm and the visiting Kitchener Rangers.
The main incidents in question centred on the charging of the Guelph Storm goaltender by player Mike Amodeo of the Kitchener Rangers and a kicking incident involving player Adam Keefe of the Kitchener Rangers.
As a result of the review, Commissioner David Branch stated….
“The League is of the opinion that a number of actions displayed in the playoff game of March 26th at Guelph between the Guelph Storm and Kitchener Rangers were inappropriate, embarrassing and detrimental to the welfare of the game of hockey.
“As a result of the review player Mike Amodeo of the Kitchener Rangers is suspended for twenty-five (25) games and player Adam Keefe of the Kitchener Rangers is suspended for ten (10) games and the Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club fined $5,000.00.
“We are of the opinion that the actions displayed by both Amodeo and Keefe were unnecessary and have no place in our game and represent “bullying tactics” which we must all work towards eliminating from our game.
“The fine to the Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club is as the result of the general deportment and conduct of their team during the playoff game in question”.
