O’Nabigon Named OHL Player of the Week
Toronto – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Kitchener Rangers’ left winger Nathan O’Nabigon is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday December 22, 2002 after scoring five goals and one assist for six points to lead the Rangers to a pair of wins last week.
O’Nabigon, a 19-year-old native of Longlac, Ontario, opened the week with two goals, including the game-winner, in a 4-3 win over the Guelph Storm on December 19. He fired three goals, including the game-winner for the second time in as many games, and picked up an assist in a 6-2 win over the Sarnia Sting on December 20. O’Nabigon was named first star in both games.
O’Nabigon improved his season totals to 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points in 34 games and helped the Rangers win their fourth straight game despite missing forwards Derek Roy and Gregory Campbell, who are playing for Team Canada in the World Junior Championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
