Hislop heading closer to home in trade to Storm
The Guelph Storm added to their blueline in a trade announced Thursday, acquiring Brayden Hislop from the North Bay Battalion.
Turning 20 in September, Hislop hails from St. Clements, Ont. and is preparing for his third OHL season. He was acquired for a conditional 15th round pick (Kingston’s) in 2024 that would become Peterborough’s third in 2024 and Barrie’s fifth in 2026 should he suit up for the Storm after his return from any NHL camp he might attend.
Hislop was acquired by North Bay last November in a move that also saw Spirit captain Josh Bloom join the Battalion. A physical, left-shot defenceman, Hislop recorded 19 points (3-16–19) over 69 games between North Bay and Saginaw last season.
“Brayden is a versatile defenceman who can play big minutes and provide strong leadership from the blueline,” said Storm GM George Burnett. “He gained valuable experience as an important member of the Battalion’s run to the Eastern Conference Finals last spring that will make him a key part of our hockey club moving forward.”
Originally Owen Sound’s ninth round pick in 2019, Hislop has played in 111 regular season games, recording 33 points (7-26–33) along with a plus/minus rating of plus-31. He played 20 games for the Battalion in their run to the East Final last spring, registering a pair of assists.
“This was not an easy move for us, as Brayden has made a huge impact on our team and community in such a short time, but it gets us closer to the limit of three overage players,” said Battalion general manager Adam Dennis.
“He’s the ultimate teammate and competitor and was a big reason we were able to compete deep into last year’s playoffs. We wish Brayden all the best with the Storm and thank him for his time here in North Bay.”
