Hislop traded to Guelph
NORTH BAY, Ont. — The North Bay Battalion has traded defenceman Brayden Hislop to the Guelph Storm, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Thursday.
North Bay receives a conditional 15th-round choice in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection for Hislop, an overage candidate for the 2023-24 season.
The Battalion acquired Hislop, a Kitchener native who turns 20 on Sept. 26, from the Saginaw Spirit last Nov. 16 with left winger Josh Bloom and a sixth-round pick for left winger Nic Sima, defenceman Cam Gauvreau and five Priority Selection choices. In 50 regular-season games with the Troops, the left-shot rearguard scored one goal and earned 11 assists for 12 points before registering two assists in 20 playoff games.
The conditional choice in 2024, which originally belonged to the Kingston Frontenacs, becomes a 2024 third-rounder and a 2026 fifth-rounder if Hislop plays an OHL game after attending any National Hockey League camp. The third originated with the Peterborough Petes and the fifth with the Barrie Colts.
“This was not an easy move for us, as Brayden has made a huge impact on our team and community in such a short time, but it gets us closer to the limit of three overage players,” said general manager Adam Dennis.
“He’s the ultimate teammate and competitor and was a big reason we were able to compete deep into last year’s playoffs. We wish Brayden all the best with the Storm and thank him for his time here in North Bay.”
The Battalion now has eight 2003-born players, including left winger Matvey Petrov, a Russian import who has signed an NHL contract with the Edmonton Oilers. Others number forwards Bloom, signed by the Vancouver Canucks, Liam Arnsby, a Florida Panthers draftee, Justin Ertel, Pasquale Zito and Nikita Tarasevich and defencemen Paul Christopoulos and Luc Brzustowski.
Training camp is scheduled to open Aug. 28.
