Christian Thomas is OHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Oshawa Generals forward Christian Thomas is the OHL Player of the Week for the first week of OHL post-season action ending March 27. Now a three-time winner of the award this season, Thomas led the league with nine points in three games scoring three goals and six assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-7.
Thomas led the Generals to a commanding 3-0 series lead against the Kingston Frontenacs in their first round best-of-seven series. He picked up three assists as part of a 7-3 win in Game one on Thursday night, then scored twice and added two assists for four points on Friday in a big 10-1 win as first star of the game. Last night the Generals picked up their third win over the Frontenacs with Thomas scoring once and adding an assist in the 5-4 victory.
Thomas, an 18-year-old from Toronto, ON, is a New York Rangers prospect selected in the second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He is one of only two OHL players to score 50 goals during the regular season and finished the year with 54 along with 45 assists for 99 points in 66 games.
Thomas’ teammate Andy Andreoff also had a productive week for the Generals with eight points in three games scoring two goals and adding six assists. Honourable mention for the award goes to Michael Sgarbossa of the Sudbury Wolves who had a six-point game with a goal and five assists as third star of their 8-7 overtime win over the Ottawa 67’s in Game one action on Saturday. In goal, JP Anderson of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors has backstopped his team to a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Belleville Bulls with two shutouts and a goals-against-average of 0.33 and save percentage of .983 in three starts.
