Wolves’ Serensits commits to U of T
Sudbury Wolves defenceman Emmett Serensits has committed to joining the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s hockey program for the 2021-22 season.
The Sudbury Star’s Ben Leeson reported the news on Friday, also citing that the overage defender hopes to return to the Wolves lineup when the puck drops to begin the 2020-21 season.

A 21-year-old native of Oakville, Ont., Serensits was Sudbury’s first-ever OHL Under-18 Priority Selection choice, being taken seventh overall from the Oakville Rangers U18 program. In three seasons with the Wolves, Serensits has compiled six goals, 43 assists and 49 points along with 131 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of plus-7.
“It’s a great school and it will be nice to get a really good education,” Serensits told Leeson of the arrangement. “They did really well last year in terms of hockey, too, so it’s a really good fit for me. The Mississauga campus isn’t too far from home and when I’ve got some spare time, I can do some fishing on that campus, too.”
Led by reigning U SPORTS men’s hockey coach of the year Ryan Medel, the Blues program features other OHL grads in Cole Purboo (Windsor Spitfires), Kyle Potts (North Bay Battalion), Riley Bruce (North Bay Battalion), Nick Grima (North Bay Battalion), Joe Manchurek (Oshawa Generals) and Hayden Davis (Mississauga Steelheads).
Serensits, who put up 25 points (1-24–25) in 63 games last season, will be enrolled in a general science program for his first year, and intends to specialize in environmental science during his second year.
