Wolves retire Rod Schutt’s No. 8
The Sudbury Wolves paid tribute to a franchise great on Friday night, raising Rod Schutt’s #8 to the heights of the Sudbury Community Arena prior to puck drop.
Schutt was joined at centre ice by his family along with former Wolves teammates in Mike Foligno, Wes Jarvis, John Baby, John Walker and Mike Gazdic for the pre-game ceremony, extending his thanks to the organization following comments from team owner Dario Zulich.

Schutt led the 1975-76 Wolves to an appearance in the OHL Championship Series, recording a franchise record 72 goals that season. The Bancroft, Ont. native put together back-to-back 100+ point seasons in Sudbury and finished his OHL career with the franchise’s fifth-best total of 295 points (130-165–295) over just 199 career regular season games. He was also a prolific playoff producer, recording 56 points (15-41–56) over 32 post-season contests.
Schutt was selected by the Montreal Canadiens with the 13th overall pick of the 1976 NHL Draft and after being named AHL Rookie of the Year for the Calder Cup champion Nova Scotia Voyageurs in 1976-77, went on to play parts of eight NHL seasons between Montreal, Pittsburgh and Toronto.
He joins other Wolves legends in Randy Carlyle (6), Ron Duguay (10), Dale Hunter (15) and Mike Foligno (17) in having his number retired by the team.
