U SPORTS Report: Oct. 18, 2024
A total of 195 OHL alumni are playing in the U SPORTS men’s hockey ranks this season. Throughout the year the U SPORTS Report will keep tabs on former OHL names doing great things in the OUA, AUS and Canada West ranks on the road to the 2025 U SPORTS University Cup to be held from March 20-23 in Ottawa, Ont.
QUEEN’S REMAIN LAST UNDEFEATED TEAM IN OUA RANKS, LARMAND EARNS GAELS POTW
The Queen’s University Gaels are the last undefeated team in the OUA, holding a 4-0 record this season. Fueled by 13 OHL alumni, the Gaels began the weekend with a 3-2 shootout victory over Lakehead on Friday. Owen Lalonde (Sudbury, Guelph, Flint) contributed an assist, while Cameron Tolnai (Ottawa) and Daniel Michaud (Oshawa, Niagara) scored the shootout winners.
The Gaels returned to action against the University of Toronto on Saturday, defeating the Varsity Blues 5-2. Rookie forward Ethan Larmand (Sudbury) recorded a perfect hat trick, while Ian Lemieux (Barrie, Kingston) also scored in the victory. Larmand’s impressive three-goal performance earned him the Gaels Male Athlete of the Week honors.

UNB REDS CONTINUING WINNING WAYS THIS SEASON
Under the leadership of a new head coach, the University of New Brunswick Reds are maintaining their winning momentum, starting the season as the only undefeated team in the AUS with a 4-0 record. Kicking off the weekend with a high-scoring matchup, the Reds defeated Moncton 8-2 on the road. The win featured scoring contributions from Sean McGurn (London), while Justin Nolet (Sarnia, Kitchener), Jax Dubois (Peterborough, Kingston), and Mike Petizian (Kitchener) each provided a pair of helpers.

The Reds capped off a perfect weekend with a 3-1 victory over UPEI on Saturday, with Cody Morgan (Kingston, Windsor, Flint, London) and Emmett Sproule (Erie, Peterborough) each lighting the lamp. Sproule also added an assist, earning him Player of the Game honors for UNB.
CALLAGHAN TOPS U SPORTS POINT-GETTERS
Ranked first among all U SPORTS point-getters this season, StFX X-Men blueliner Charlie Callaghan (Mississauga) has registered five goals, four assists, and nine points over five games. A member of the 2023-24 U SPORTS All-Rookie Team, Callaghan tallied 21 points (5 goals, 16 assists) in 28 games with the X-Men last season. StFX has a season record of 2-4 during the 2024-25 campaign, and Callaghan contributed to a 7-1 victory over Dalhousie on Wednesday, scoring a perfect hat trick to earn Player of the Game honours. Selected by the Mississauga Steelheads in the eighth round of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection, the 22-year-old Toronto native played four seasons in the OHL, recording 55 points over 208 regular season games.
