U SPORTS Report: Nov. 28, 2024
A total of 195 OHL alumni are playing in the U SPORTS men’s hockey ranks this season. Throughout the year the U SPORTS Report will keep tabs on former OHL names doing great things in the OUA, AUS and Canada West ranks on the road to the 2025 U SPORTS University Cup to be held from March 20-23 in Ottawa, Ont.
RAVENS BUILD ON WIN STREAK
The Carleton University Ravens pushed their win streak to five games, securing four points over the weekend. On Wednesday, the Ravens edged UQTR 2-1, with Alex Johnston (Soo, Ottawa) finding the back of the net.

They returned to the ice Sunday, earning a commanding 6-3 win over McGill. Nolan Seed (Owen Sound) added an empty-net goal, while Johnston and Alexandre Hogue (Sarnia Sting) each tallied two assists to cap off a successful week.

GAELS CLIMB IN STANDINGS
The Queen’s University Gaels climbed to second in the OUA East following a successful two-game stretch. On Wednesday, they claimed a 6-3 home victory against the RMC Paladins. Ethan Larmand (Sudbury) and Michael Renwick (Hamilton, Windsor) each scored, while Nolan Hutcheson (Sudbury) stole the show with a hat trick. Cameron Tolnai (Ottawa) also contributed three assists in the dominant win.

The Gaels carried their momentum into Saturday, defeating the TMU Bold 3-2. Hutcheson, Tolnai, and Daniel Michaud (Oshawa, Niagara) each scored to complete the perfect week for Queen’s.

REDS REMAIN ATOP AUS
The UNB Reds maintained their hold on first place in the AUS standings after another strong week. On Wednesday, they blanked the UPEI Panthers 2-0, with assists coming from Sean McGurn (London), Cody Morgan (Kingston, Windsor, Flint, London), and Emmett Sproule (Erie, Peterborough). The Reds wrapped up the week with a 5-2 victory over Moncton on Friday. Cole MacKay (Soo), Oliver Peer (Windsor, Flint), and Morgan all scored, with Morgan also adding an assist to secure the win.
OTTAWA SECURES SUCCESS IN WATERLOO
The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees earned a valuable four points on the road this weekend. On Friday, they defeated Laurier 2-1, with Zach Giroux (Flint, Sudbury) contributing a goal and an assist. The Gee-Gees followed up with a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory over the University of Waterloo on Saturday, where Giroux once again found the back of the net to secure the win.
