U SPORTS Report: Feb. 7, 2024
A total of 228 OHL alumni are playing in the U SPORTS men’s hockey ranks this season. Throughout the year the U SPORTS Report will keep tabs on former OHL names doing great things in the OUA, AUS and Canada West ranks on the road to the 2024 U SPORTS University Cup to be held from March 14-17 in Toronto, Ont.
BROCK RECORDS HISTORIC SEASON
As the 2023-24 U SPORTS regular season comes to an end this weekend, the Brock Badgers remain atop the OUA standings, surpassing their school history all-time singular season win-record with two victories last week. Travelling to North Bay over the weekend, the Badgers blanked the Nipissing Lakers 3-0 on Friday with goals from former Kingston Frontenacs forward Tyler Burnie and London Knights alumnus Cole Tymkin.
Returning to the ice, the Badgers clinched another win on Saturday with a 3-2 victory over the Lakers as Niagara IceDogs graduate Justin Brack contributed a goal and an assist on top of a third-period game-winner from Burnie.

LAURIER SHUTS DOWN KINGSTON VISITORS
The Laurier Golden Hawks had an eventful weekend, shutting down their Kingston visitors in a pair of wins. Taking on the RMC Paladins on Friday, the 5-2 win saw contributions from Oshawa Generals alumnus Sullivan Sparkes and Barrie Colts graduate Sam Rhodes, while former Hamilton Bulldogs blueliner Conor Ali registered a pair of helpers.
The Golden Hawks took on their second opponent on Saturday, defeating the Queen’s Gaels 4-2. It was a big night for OHL alumni, as Ali (2), Rhodes, and North Bay Battalion graduate Patrick Brown registered the markers to lead Laurier to victory.

TMU RECOGNIZES SEVEN OHL ALUMNI IN SENIOR NIGHT VICTORY
The Toronto Metropolitan Bold opened their weekend with a 4-0 win on Friday over the Toronto Varsity Blues, as former Mississauga Steelheads netminder Kai Edmonds earned a 22-save shutout and Niagara IceDogs graduate Elijah Roberts lit the lamp twice.
With the Bold having the second largest group of OHL alumni playing in the OUA this season, TMU recognized their senior class in a 5-2 win over the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday as seven OHL graduates in Kyle Bollers (Oshawa Generals), Elijah Roberts (Niagara IceDogs), Ryan Wells (Mississauga Steelheads), Will Sirman (Ottawa 67’s), Cole Resnick (Oshawa Generals), Zach Roberts (Guelph Storm), and Cole Cameron (Kitchener Rangers) all took centre ice pre-game.
Former Kingston Frontenacs forward Ian Martin had a standout performance, registering two goals and an assist in the win.

THE UNTOUCHABLE UNB REDS
The UNB Reds remain in the top spot heading into the final week of U SPORTS men’s hockey regular season action, building on their 24-0-0-0 record with a pair of wins at home over the weekend. Recording multi-point showings on Friday, former Ottawa 67’s forward Austen Keating (2-0) and Sudbury Wolves alumnus Macauley Carson (1-) helped fuel the Reds to a 5-3 comeback win over StFX.
The Reds closed out the weekend with a 8-2 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday, as Keating, Kade Landry (Hamilton Bulldogs), Colton Kammerer (Hamilton Bulldogs), and Camaryn Baber (London Knights) each found the back of the net on top of former London Knights forward Jason Willms‘ three-point performance (1-2-3).
