Thursday Highlights: Spitfires surging in West
WINDSOR 3, SAULT STE. MARIE 2 – SO
– Down 2-0 midway through the third, goals from Will Cuylle and Matthew Maggio tied the score to force overtime, with Maggio getting the equalizer with 25 seconds remaining.
– Daniel D’Amico scored the shootout winner before Xavier Medina stopped Tanner Dickinson to secure the Spitfires victory. D’Amico is now 4-for-4 in shootouts on the season, and 8-for-11 in his OHL career.
– Tyler Savard had a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds, playing against his father Marc Savard’s Spitfires.
– Maggio had a goal and an assist while Wyatt Johnston finished with two helpers, stretching his point streak to 10 games.
– Sault Ste. Marie outshot Windsor 39-25 as Xavier Medina made 37 saves on his 20th birthday for the win.
– Windsor’s second straight win brings them within three points of first place Sault Ste. Marie in the Western Conference.
– The Hounds have points in three straight and own a 20-12-2-1 record.
– Windsor has won four of five matchups against Sault Ste. Marie this season.

– Sudbury’s Jacob Holmes opened the scoring 5:51 into action before North Bay responded with four unanswered.
– San Jose Sharks prospect Brandon Coe scored twice and added an assist, stretching his point streak to seven games while giving him 60 points (24-36–60) on the season.
– 2022 NHL Draft prospect Ty Nelson had a goal and an assist for the Battalion.
– North Bay blueliner Alexander Lukin scored his first career OHL goal.
– Rookie Dom DiVincentiis stopped 20 of 21 for the win while Sudbury’s Jonathan Lemaire made 28 saves.
– The Battalion earn their first regulation win since Dec. 4th, improving to 19-12-2-2 for third in the Eastern Conference.
– Sudbury has dropped three straight, falling to 10-20-3-1, tied with Peterborough for eighth in the Eastern Conference.
– North Bay has won three of five meetings against Sudbury this season. The two teams meet again on Sunday in North Bay.

OSHAWA 4, MISSISSAUGA 3 – SO
– Max Dodig tied the score with 5:53 remaining to force a shootout where Oshawa’s Ryan Stepien scored the winner to claim the extra point.
– Blueliners Lleyton Moore and Nikita Parfenyuk both scored for Oshawa before rookie Calum Ritchie scored his 12th of the season.
– 2022 NHL Draft prospect Owen Beck had a goal and an assist for Mississauga.
– Patrick Leaver earned the win for Oshawa, stopping 33 of 36 before turning away five of six shootout opponents.
– Mississauga’s Roman Basran made 28 saves in the loss.
– Oshawa has won eight of 10, improving to 17-12-1-2 in a three-way tie for fourth in the Eastern Conference.
– Mississauga keeps the point streak going, with points in 10 straight contests to sit at 23-7-1-3 atop the OHL standings.

– Hometown product Chase Stillman picked up two assists for the Petes while Philadelphia Flyers prospects J.R. Avon (1-1–2) and Brian Zanetti (0-3–3) combined for five points.
– 67’s rookie Luca Pinelli had his first OHL multi-goal effort with a pair.
– Chris Barlas picked up his first OHL point on an assist. He becomes the 15th 67’s player to earn his first point this season.
– Michael Simpson stopped 29 of 32 for the win opposite Ottawa’s Will Cranley who made 17 saves.
– The Petes snap a four-game slide, improving to 11-19-2-0 for eighth in the Eastern Conference.
– Ottawa’s three-game winning streak is snapped as they fall to 15-18-1-1, holding down seventh in the Eastern Conference.
