Thursday Highlights: Big third propels Spits to fourth straight win

Curtis Douglas (5), Thomas Stevenson (2) and Kyle McDonald (5) scored third period goals to propel the Windsor Spitfires to their fourth straight win, defeating the Soo Greyhounds 6-4 on home ice. Windsor trailed 2-0 early and 4-3 after two periods before the Spits rallied for three unanswered, improving to 8-3-1-0 in the West Division. Cole Purboo (4), Connor Corcoran (2) and Luke Boka (5) also scored Windsor goals while Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Tyler Angle notched a pair of assists. Tye Kartye (4), Rory Kerins (10), Cole MacKay (8) and Marc Boudreau (3) scored Sault Ste. Marie goals while Jaromir Pytlik had a pair of assists. The Hounds were outshot 30-22, falling to 6-6-1-0. The Spitfires improve to 6-0-1-0 on home ice.

The Barrie Colts held off a late Owen Sound Attack comeback attempt as Vancouver Canucks prospect Arturs Silovs made 40 saves in a 3-2 home ice victory. The Attack outshot the Colts 19-5 in the third period, recovering from a slow start that saw Barrie control the shots 22-11 in the opening frame. Tyson Foerster (9), Luke Bignell (5) and Matej Pekar (12) scored barrie goals while Jacob Tortora had an assists in his return from a lengthy suspension. Andrew Perrott (2) and Sergey Popov (4) scored Owen Sound goals as the Attack saw their five-game winning streak snapped. Mack Guzda made 36 saves in the loss as the Colts won their second straight, improving to 7-4-0-1. Owen Sound sits atop the Midwest Division with a record of 7-3-0-1.

SARNIA 4, PETERBOROUGH 2
Ethan Langevin made 41 saves as the Sarnia Sting kept rolling, winning a fourth straight contest, this time defeating the CHL’s eight-ranked Peterborough Petes 4-2 on the road. The Sting were outshot 43-25 but Langevin made the difference, earning first star honours to halt Peterborough’s winning streak at three. Sarnia went 3-for-4 on the power play as Justin Nolet (1), Brayden Guy (4) and Ryan McGregor (2) scored goals on the man advantage while Sean Josling (9) also found the back of the net in a fourth straight game. One of Langevin’s 41 saves included a penalty shot denial of Peterborough’s Zach Gallant with 1:12 left in the opening period. Zach Gallant (4) and Nick Robertson (13) provided Peterborough goals while Declan Chisholm extended his point streak to 12 games with an assist. Sarnia improves to 4-7-0-0 while Peterborough owns a 9-4-0-0 record. Blueliner Hudson Wilson made his Petes debut.
