Six OHL Officials Selected to Work 2021 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship

Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League is pleased to congratulate six officials who skated during the 2019-20 OHL Regular Season on being selected by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and Hockey Canada to work the World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton, Alta. from December 25, 2020 to January 5, 2021.

The unique nature of the 2021 IIHF World Juniors has prompted the IIHF Officiating Committee to select an all-Canadian line-up of 26 officials – 14 referees and 12 linesmen. The decision was made to ensure the health and safety of all participants due to COVID-19 and current travel restrictions.

OHL referees selected to work the annual international clash for junior hockey supremacy include Carter Sandlak (London, Ont.) and Tyson Stewart (Almonte, Ont.). They are accompanied by OHL linesmen Matt Ceko (St. Catharines, Ont.), Adam Harris (Hamilton, Ont.), Matt Mannella (Niagara Falls, Ont.) and Ben O’Quinn (Woodstock, Ont.).

“As a League, we are thrilled to see these six officials get the opportunity to officiate in the prestigious World Junior Hockey Championship,” said OHL Director of Officiating Conrad Haché. “Just like the players competing, this is a unique opportunity for these officials and one they have worked very hard to achieve.”

All six officials are products of the Hockey Canada Officiating Program, which includes six levels of certification and is the foundation for the training and development of officials across Canada.
