Pre-Season Pulse: Saturday September 14th

NIAGARA 4, PETERBOROUGH 1 (IN MILLBROOK)
Niagara IceDogs rookie netminder Tucker Tynan was the difference, turning aside 41 of the 42 shots he faced as the Dogs defeated the Petes 4-1 to open the new Cavan Monaghan Community Centre in Millbrook. Tynan’s lone goal allowed came on a second period shot from Petes rookie Keegan McMullen. Tynan would later stop Petes defenceman David Maier on a third period penalty shot attempt. Sophomores Jake Uberti and Jonah De Simone provided the Niagara offence with a pair of goals each as the IceDogs prevailed despite being outshot 43-26. De Simone wraps up his pre-season with 10 points over five games including a league-leading seven goals. Niagara played to a 1-2-0-2 pre-season record while Peterborough finished at 3-1-0-1.

OWEN SOUND 4, NORTH BAY 3 – SO
Kaleb Pearson scored twice, netting the game-tying goal in the third period before Kirill Nizhnikov scored the shootout winner in a 4-3 Owen Sound Attack win over visiting North Bay. Nizhnikov scored a second period goal while also emerging as the shootout hero as the Bears got the better of the Battalion. Mack Guzda turned aside 21 of 22 shots before Nick Chenard finished things off, stopping six of eight. Overage winger Brad Chenier scored twice for the Troops while Mitchell Russell also found the back of the net. The two teams will meet on Sunday in North Bay.

SAGINAW 6, FLINT 5
After falling 7-5 to the visiting Firebirds on Friday, the Saginaw Spirit turned around and got even, skating to a 6-5 road win over rival Flint. Saginaw squandered a 5-2 lead as the Firebirds charged back to tie the score with three goals in under five minutes to begin the third period. Jake Goldowski gave the Spirit the last laugh though, scoring the game winner 6:25 into the final frame. The Spirit once again outshot the Firebirds by a considerable margin, doing so 47-33 while going 3-for-4 on the man advantage. Goldowski score a pair of goals while Cole Perfetti played down the middle and had two goals and an assist. DJ Busdeker and Davis Codd also lit the lamp while Camaryn Baber and Danny Katic each had two assists. Connor Roberts, Jack Phibbs, Brennan Othmann, Zacharie Giroux and Jack Wismer scored Flint goals while big winger Emmet Pierce finished with three assists. Michigan native Nick Donofrio, formerly of the Hamilton Bulldogs, collected the win for Saginaw with a 28-save performance. Saginaw wraps up the pre-season with a 3-2 record while Flint went 3-1.

HAMILTON 5, GUELPH 4 – SO
Logan Morrison scored the shootout winner as the Hamilton Bulldogs struck back against the Guelph Storm, avenging a Friday night loss with a 5-4 shootout triumph on home ice. Morrison scored a second period power play goal, joining teammates Jake Gravelle, Navrin Mutter and Liam Van Loon in the scoring column. Andrei Bakanov, Daniil Chayka, Ty Collins and Cedric Ralph scored for the Storm while Danny Zhilkin had a pair of assists. Hamilton’s Marco Costantini was the winning netminder, turning aside 23 shots and all three shootout opponents he faced. Hamilton played to a 2-2 pre-season record while Guelph finished at 2-2-0-1.

OSHAWA 5, KINGSTON 2 (IN BOWMANVILLE)
Montreal Canadiens prospect Allan McShane scored twice and Andrew MacLean turned aside 25 shots as the Oshawa Generals defeated visiting Kingston 5-2. Ty Tullio recorded a goal and an assist while David Jesus and Jacob Winterton also tallied. Francesco Arcuri and Nick Wong were Kingston scorers while overage netminder Brendan Bonello stopped 18 of 19 in his segment of the contest. The Fronts wrap up the pre-season with a 1-1-0-2 record.

BARRIE 4, KITCHENER 2
The Barrie Colts rallied from a 2-0 deficit to get even with the Kitchener Rangers in the back end of a home-and-home. Jacob Tortora scored a pair of goals including the late third period game winner as the Colts defeated the Rangers 4-2 behind a 35-save performance from goaltender Jet Greaves. Victor Hadfield and Dalton Duhart also scored while rookie defenceman Brandt Clarke picked up three assists. Kitchener outshot Barrie 37-27, getting goals from Donovan Sebrango and Joseph Rupoli while Lucas Pfeil made 23 saves. Barrie finishes with a pre-season record of 4-2 while Kitchener went 3-2.

ERIE 7, LONDON 2 (IN CLINTON)
The Erie Otters dictated the pace, defeating the London Knights 7-2 while outshooting them 48-22 on home ice. The Otters win follows a 4-3 shootout loss on Friday night in London as Erie came out firing, taking a 3-0 lead before the Knights could get anything going. Daniel D’Amato, Brendan Sellan and Elias Cohen each had a goal and an assist for the Otters while Brendan Hoffmann, Emmett Sproule, Luke Beamish and Danial Singer also got on the scoresheet. Daniel Murphy earned the win with a 20-save effort, surrendering a pair of goals both off the stick of Billy Moskal. Erie rounds out the pre-season at 2-1-0-1 while London played to a 2-2 mark.
