We’ve reached the quarter-mark of the OHL season! Here’s what’s happening across the league as we move into the weekend.
Rangers rise to the top in Week 7 edition of OHL Power Rankings:
Throughout the season, the OHL Power Rankings will usher in a new week of action each Monday, with the top 16 teams in the Ontario Hockey League jostling for position headed into the 2024 OHL Playoffs. Read more
Knights’ Barkey named Cogeco OHL Player of the Week:
Philadelphia Flyers prospect Denver Barkey of the London Knights is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording two goals, five assists, and seven points as the Knights won all three of their games last week. Read More
Rangers’ Parsons named OHL Goaltender of the Week:
Jackson Parsons of the Kitchener Rangers is the OHL Goaltender of the Week, playing to a 3-0 record including two shutouts, with a 1.00 goals-against average, and .971 save percentage. Read more

Ten OHL players win gold with Canada White at 2023 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge:
10 OHL players led by Soo Greyhounds Head Coach, John Dean, won gold over with weekend with Canada White at the 2023 World U17 Hockey Challenge in Charlottetown, PEI, defeating the United States by a score of 2-1. Read more

IceDogs relieve Kuwabara, appoint Ben Boudreau as Head Coach:
The Niagara IceDogs have relieved Head Coach Ryan Kuwabara of his duties and have named Ben Boudreau as new Head Coach with a multi-year extension. Boudreau joined the Niagara IceDogs this past summer as Associate Coach after spending four seasons as the Head Coach of the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL. He led the Komets to a Kelly Cup Championship in 2021. Read more
Brent Sullivan steps down as Sting Assistant Coach:
The Sarnia Sting have announced that alumnus Brent Sullivan has stepped down from his Assistant Coaching position to attend to personal and family matters. Read more
Zak Lavoie named IceDogs captain:
Zak Lavoie has been named captain of the Niagara IceDogs. Lavoie, a 2004 born forward from Ottawa, ON has skated in a total of 160 career OHL games and has amassed 63 goals and 55 assists for 118 points. Lavoie was drafted 7th overall by the Mississauga Steelheads in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection and attended Ottawa Senators development camp in 2022. Lavoie will become the 16th captain in franchise history. Read more
Rangers sign Cameron Arquette:
The Kitchener Rangers announced today that forward Cameron Arquette has committed to an OHL scholarship and development agreement with the club. He is the seventh player from his 2023 OHL Priority Selection class to sign with the Rangers. The Wheatley, Ont. native was drafted by the Rangers in the fourth round, 71st overall in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. Read more

Greyhounds gear up for “Week of Giving”:
The Soo Greyhounds are gearing up for a week of giving back to the community, showcasing their commitment to making a difference in Sault Ste. Marie. From November 15 to November 17, the Greyhounds will be hosting a series of charitable events, including the Hounds for the Hungry Food Drive and the much-anticipated Teddy Bear Toss & Stuff-a-Bus event. The Greyhounds are teaming up with the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen Community Centre and St Vincent Place for a Hounds for the Hungry Food Drive. Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted at the Soo Greyhounds’ home game against Sudbury on November 15. One of the most heartwarming traditions in hockey, the Teddy Bear Toss, returns to the GFL Memorial Gardens on Friday, November 17. For the Stuff-a-Bus portion of the event, a bus will be parked out from of the main entrance (box office entrance) prior to the game to collect donations of toys and winter wear. Read more
Otters to host Children’s Grief Awareness game on Friday:
The Erie Otters and Highmark Caring Place (Erie) are combining forces once more for the second-annual Children’s Grief Awareness Night on Friday. Last season was the inaugural edition of the promotional night in sports history, and gave hope to those wearing blue around the world. This year HCP, the Otters, and Erie Apparel are teaming up for an even bigger celebration and honoring of those grieving than ever before. The Otters will be sporting custom jerseys with blue butterflies to honour children who are grieving all over the world.
Rangers to host “Mitts for Kids” on Friday:
The Kitchener Rangers are set to host their “Mitts for Kids” game on Friday night in an effort to provide less fortunate children with winter apparel. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used hats, mittens, and snowsuits to the game, which will be collected and delivered to the Children’s Needs Distribution Centre (CNDC). Rangers Authentics store will also mark down mittens for fans to purchase and donate. The Rangers, in collaboration with Mitts for Kids, aim to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children in need by ensuring they have access to warm and dry winter clothing for the winter season. Storm to host Special Olympics game on Friday:
For the 16th straight season, the Guelph Storm are partnering up with Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), Special Olympics Ontario and Guelph Police Services to raise awareness about the importance of individuals with an intellectual disability on Friday. The game will feature a Ceremonial Puck Drop with Chief Gord Colby and Ryan Fox. Read more
Otters to host Rock ’em Sock ’em game on Saturday:
The Erie Otters are set to host their third annual Rock ’em Sock ’em game on Saturday! The game will feature a charity sock toss during the first intermission, benefitting community shelter services.
IceDogs to host Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday:
The Niagara IceDogs are set to host their annual Teddy Bear Toss game on Saturday! the IceDogs encourage fans to bring new stuffed animals to the game; when the IceDogs score their first goal, fans can launch their teddy bears onto the ice. All collected teddy bears will be donated for the holiday season.
Firebirds to host 90’s night on Saturday:
The Flint Firebirds are set to host 90’s night on Saturday. Voted as fan’s choice, get ready for a night filled with 90’s music, themes, and fun. The Firebirds goal song for 90’s night will be Whoomp! (There it is) by Tag Team!
ALUMNI NOTES:
Frontenacs to raise Bernie Nicholls’ #16 to the rafters on Saturday:
The Kingston Frontenacs are excited to announce that on November 18th, 2023 the team will be honouring one of the most prolific scorers in franchise history. The hockey club will be welcoming Bernie Nicholls back to Kingston and raising his number 16 to the Leon’s Centre rafters. Bernie skated with the Kingston Canadians from 1979 until 1981. During his rookie season in 1979-80, Nicholls scored 36 goals and collected 79 points. He followed up his freshman season with the greatest season the franchise has ever seen. In 65 games played, Bernie scored an astonishing 63 goals, 89 assists, for a team record 152 points. Read more
OHL graduate Patrick Sanvido joins Frontenacs as Assistant Coach:
The Kingston Frontenacs are pleased to welcome Patrick Sanvido as an Assistant Coach with the hockey club. The 27-year-old from Guelph, Ont. has spent the last two seasons as an Assistant Coach with Queen’s University’s Men’s hockey program. Sanvido spent five seasons as a defenceman in the OHL, primarily with the Windsor Spitfires, a team he captained from 2014-2016. Read more
Former OHL Coach of the Year Kris Knoblauch hired as Head Coach of Edmonton Oilers:
Off to a 3-9-1 start with losses in eight of their last 10, the Edmonton Oilers made a coaching change over the weekend, relieving head coach Jay Woodcroft and assistant Dave Manson of their duties. General manager Ken Holland announced that Kris Knoblauch of the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack would be assuming the club’s head coaching position. Knoblauch, who was the OHL’s Coach of the Year in 2016, hoisted the J. Ross Robertson Cup as an OHL champion in Erie in 2017 as the Otters came within one win of a Memorial Cup title that spring. Ryan Winterton makes NHL debut:
Former London Knights and Hamilton Bulldogs forward Ryan Winterton suited up in his first career NHL game last Thursday as the Seattle Kraken skated to a 4-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche. The 20-year-old from Whitby, Ont. skated in seven minutes of action, registering a shot on goal. Seattle selected Winterton in the third round (67th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft. He appeared in seven games with the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds to start this season, posting five points (3-2–5) in that span. Originally Hamilton’s first round (8th overall) pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection, Winterton played in 124 regular season games, recording 44 goals, 61 assists and 105 points. Read more
Chris Terry earns 700th AHL point:
OHL graduate Chris Terry became the 26th player in AHL history to record his 700th career point last weekend. Terry, 34, has 10 points (5-5–10) through 11 games for the Chicago Wolves this season, his 13th in the AHL. The Brampton, Ont. native played four seasons for the Plymouth Whalers from 2005-09, hoisting the J. Ross Robertson Cup in 2007. Terry was a fifth round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2007 NHL Draft. He’s skated in 152 career NHL contests, last doing so with Montreal in 2016-17.
