OHL Post-Secondary Weekly Round-Up – Jan. 22
This season, 241 OHL alumni are suiting up across U SPORTS and NCAA hockey programs. Each week, we’ll highlight standout performances and rising storylines from both leagues. Here’s a look at the top moments from the past week of action.
Feature Stories of the Week (U-SPORTS)
Matt Onuska – Top 8 Academic All-Canadian
Goaltender Matt Onuska (London, Windsor) of the Waterloo Warriors has been named a U SPORTS Top 8 Academic All-Canadian, the highest individual academic honour awarded nationally. Onuska has established himself as one of the country’s elite goaltenders while maintaining exceptional academic standards. In 2024–25, the third-year Honours Health Science student posted an extraordinary 96.7% average, earning recognition as one of Waterloo’s top undergraduate student-athletes for the second straight year.
On the ice, he delivered a standout season, leading the nation with a .941 save percentage and recording a 2.18 GAA en route to being named both OUA and U SPORTS Goaltender of the Year. His performance was central to Waterloo’s success and culminated in his receiving the Totzke Trophy as the Warriors’ men’s athlete of the year.
Brett Bressette – UPEI Athelete of the Week
Brett Bressette (Erie) turned in one of his strongest outings of the season on Friday, scoring the overtime winner and adding two assists to lift the Panthers to a 4–3 road victory over the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
Reid Valade – Leads USports Scoring
Reid Valade (Kitchener) continues to lead U SPORTS in both goals (24) and points (39) through 22 games this season. Over two games this past week, he added two more points (1-1–2).
Keegan McMullen – Leads OUA in Goals
Keegan McMullen (Peterborough, Soo) remains atop the OUA goal-scoring race with 17 goals in 19 games, while also ranking third nationally. He is currently riding a seven‑game goal streak.
Max Donoso – Earns Second Shutout
Max Donoso (Ottawa, Windsor) posted a weekend split after starting back‑to‑back games. Following a four‑goal outing on Saturday, he rebounded with a 26‑save shutout on Sunday – his second of the season. Donoso now sits second in the country with a 1.97 GAA.

Hobey Baker Award Nominations
The Hobey Baker Award stands as the most prestigious honour in collegiate hockey, presented annually to the top NCAA men’s ice hockey player in the nation. Recipients are recognized not only for their on‑ice excellence, but for the complete package—skill, academic commitment, leadership, and character.
