OHL Notebook: Nov. 25th, 2025
Here’s a look at some of the top storylines from a busy weekend across the league:
Brantford Remain Perfect in Regulation
The CHL’s top-ranked Brantford Bulldogs continue to be the only team without a regulation loss, entering the week at 18–0–4–1. They lead the league in both power-play efficiency and total goals scored. Jake O’Brien tops the OHL in scoring with 40 points, and Marek Vanacker leads in goals with 21. The team also has four of the five players in the top leaderboard for plus/minus: Owen Protz (+23), O’Brien (+20), Vanacker (+20), and Adam Benak (+18).
Colts Extend Point Streak to Twelve
The Barrie Colts swept all three of their games last week, pushing their point streak to twelve straight. Their surge has been driven by Utah first-round pick Cole Beaudoin, who leads the team with 37 points, and supported by standout blueliner and New York Islanders first-rounder Kashawn Aitcheson, who leads Barrie with 16 goals.
Jaden Cholette Records Back-to-Back Shutouts
Despite Oshawa’s recent struggles, newly acquired goaltender Jaden Cholette has provided a bright spot. The 2006-born netminder, who’s playing in his first OHL season, posted his second straight shutout to open the week, stopping 21 shots in a 4–0 win over North Bay and earning first-star honours.
Windsor Extends Teddy Bear Toss Streak
Windsor kicked off the OHL’s annual Teddy Bear Toss festivities and extended their remarkable streak to 15 straight wins in the event. Their last loss dates back to 2009 against the Kitchener Rangers. This year, Carson Woodall sent the stuffed animals soaring with his sixth goal of the season.
Firebirds on a Nine-Game Tear
The Flint Firebirds continue to ride the hot hand, extending their winning streak to nine games, their longest since a 15-game run from Jan. 19 to Feb. 21, 2020. After dropping out of the Power Rankings early in the season, Flint has surged back into contention and now sits just two points shy of first place in the Western Conference.
Ottawa 67’s Point Streak Snapped at Eleven
The 67’s pushed their point streak to eleven games with a Friday night result against Kitchener, but the run came to an end the following evening in a 2–1 loss to the Owen Sound Attack. Rookie netminder Ryder Fetterolf continues to impress, climbing to the top of the OHL save percentage leaderboard at .924 and remaining close behind Joey Costanzo for the league lead in goals-against average.
Easton Rye Earns Goaltender of the Week
Peterborough native Easton Rye has been a major driver of the Petes’ success this season. He went 2–0 over the weekend, posting a 1.50 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage. Rye turned aside 34 of 35 shots in a 7–1 win over Brampton on Thursday, then stopped 26 more in a 6–2 victory over Kingston on Saturday. The Petes now sit at 14-8-1-1 and hold fourth place in the Eastern Conference, while Rye is tied for the OHL lead with 13 wins.
Guelph Announced as 2027 Memorial Cup Hosts
The CHL has awarded the 2027 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota to the Guelph Storm. The 107th edition of the championship will take place in Guelph, Ontario, in spring 2027, coinciding with the city’s 200th anniversary. Guelph was selected following a competitive bidding process among OHL clubs. The Storm and the Kitchener Rangers were identified as the two finalists earlier this fall. After formal presentations and site evaluations, the independent 2027 Memorial Cup Site Selection Committee – composed of five leaders from the sports and business sectors – selected Guelph as host.
