OHL mourns the loss of Mark Laforest
The Ontario Hockey League is mourning the loss of former North Bay Centennials and Niagara Falls Flyers goaltender Mark “Trees” Laforest, who passed away on Monday at the age of 62.
The Welland, Ontario, native began his major junior career with the OHL’s Niagara Falls Flyers in the 1981-82 season. He remained with the team through its relocation the following year, becoming part of the newly named North Bay Centennials.
Laforest went on to play 103 NHL games over six seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Ottawa Senators. He was also a key part of the AHL’s Adirondack Red Wings, helping the team capture the Calder Cup in 1986.
