OHL Lesson Plan Contest Winners Announced: Innovative Approaches to Math and Hockey Integration
The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) is thrilled to announce the winners of the inaugural OHL Lesson Plan Contest, aimed at fostering creativity and engagement in math education through the exciting world of OHL hockey. The contest challenged educators to develop lesson plans incorporating OHL hockey and mathematics for junior grades 4-6 classrooms.
The judging panel, consisting of esteemed educators and OHL representatives, carefully reviewed each submission for its quality, creativity, and effectiveness in teaching mathematical concepts using real-world applications from OHL hockey.
The winners of the OHL Lesson Plan Contest are as follows:
1st Place – Van Avramidis
Van Avramidis’ lesson plans impressed the judges with their exceptional quality, clarity, and creativity. Notable aspects of Van’s submission include a deep understanding of the subject matter, engaging activities, incorporation of various subjects, and focus on diversity and inclusion within the lessons.
As a result of placing first, Van receives a $250 VISA gift card along with OHL merchandise!
2nd Place – Samantha Tomlinson
Samantha Tomlinson’s lesson plans stood out for their clear explanation of concepts, depth of understanding, and thoroughness. Judges praised Samantha’s ability to effectively communicate mathematical concepts using OHL data as examples, providing students with a strong foundation in the curriculum.
As the second place finisher, Samantha receives a $100 VISA gift card along with OHL merchandise!
3rd Place – Abby Cassidy
Abby Cassidy’s innovative approach in integrating OHL Hockey and Math was highly appreciated by the judging panel. Abby’s lesson plan exhibited creativity, quality content, depth of understanding, and an interactive nature that encouraged student engagement and exploration of real-life applications.
After placing third, Abby receives a $50 VISA gift card along with OHL merchandise!
