OHL graduates Brown, Langenbrunner named to U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame 2023 Induction Class
The United States Hockey Hall of Fame announced its induction class of 2023 on Friday, with a pair of OHL graduates included among the five names behind honoured on Wednesday, December 6 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Two-time Stanley Cup champion Dustin Brown headlines the group. Brown, from Ithaca, New York, played three seasons with the Guelph Storm from 2000-03 and remains the only player in OHL history to win the Bobby Smith Trophy as Scholastic Player of the Year three seasons in a row.
Brown put up 194 points (98-96–194) over his 174 career regular season games in Guelph and was a first round (13th overall) pick by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2003 NHL Draft. Brown went on to play in 1,296 regular-season games in the NHL, the seventh most of any American ever, and played the entirety of his NHL career with Los Angeles. He recorded 712 career regular-season points (325-387–712) in the NHL and added 49 points (19-30–49) in 92 playoff games.
Brown retired from the NHL following the 2021-22 season after finishing his 18th season with L.A. In February 2023, the Kings retired his number and unveiled a statue of him the lives outside Crypto.com Arena, the home of the Kings.
Former Peterborough Petes forward Jamie Langenbrunner will also be honoured. The Cloquet, Minnesota product won a pair of Stanley Cups over the course of his 16 NHL seasons, hoisting hockey’s ultimate prize in 1999 as a member of the Dallas Stars and again in 2003 with the New Jersey Devils.
Langenbrunner played two seasons in Peterborough from 1993-95, recording 190 points (75-115–190) over 124 regular season games. He was selected by Dallas in the second round of the 1993 NHL Draft and went on to record 663 points (243-420–663) over 1,109 NHL regular season contests. Today, Langenbrunner serves as Assistant General Manager of the Boston Bruins.
