OHL Alumni of the Month Spotlight
The OHL Alumni Association is pleased to continue the OHL Alumni of the Month program.
This five part web series is designed to recognize former players from all 20 member clubs achieving success in the corporate, business, or professional world.
April’s OHL Alumni of the Month include Alex Cord (Mississauga Steelheads), Geoffrey Schemitsch (Owen Sound Attack), Craig Mahon (Windsor Spitfires), and Terry Bovair (Peterborough Petes).
Alex Cord
Mississauga Steelheads (2009-2013)
Post-Secondary School Attended: Saint Mary’s University
A rugged competitor and popular teammate during his years in Mississauga, Alex is finishing his last year studying Commerce at Saint Mary’s University and plans to commence post-graduate studies at Saint Mary’s in September. “Alex has become a student leader on campus here at Saint Mary’s,” said Trevor Stienburg, Head Coach of the Saint Mary’s Huskies. “He has embraced the student athlete experience and has made our campus a better place.”
Geoffrey Schemitsch
Owen Sound Attack (2009-2012)
Post-Secondary School Attended: Acadia University
Geoffrey was a free agent walk on and played 2 1/2 seasons in Owen Sound before finishing his OHL tenure with the Oshawa Generals. He totaled 226 OHL games with 13 goals and 108 assists and was impressive from the first time he skated at the Bayshore. He was a tremendous puck mover and contributor night in night out. He matured into one of the leaders in Owen Sound and was instrumental in their 2011 OHL championship and run to the Mastercard Memorial cup, and has continued his hockey at Acadia where his academic focus is to become a doctor.
Craig Mahon
Windsor Spitfires (1997-2002)
Post-Secondary School Attended: University of New Brunswick
Craig played 300 regular season games for the Spitfires in his five seasons along with 39 playoffs games. He earned his Bachelor of Commerce (2004) and MBA (2006) from UNB and is currently a financial planner with Stewart & Fisher Associates in Windsor.
Terry Bovair
Peterborough Petes (1977-1981)
Terry helped the Petes win three straight OHL titles as a player and later returned to the club as an assistant coach for two stints serving under Dick Todd and Dave MacQueen helping the club again capture the Robertson Cup in 1989. He has owned and operated Fontaine’s Source for Sports in Peterborough for 32 years and says playing for the Petes was the best thing to happen to him. He and a group of 12-15 former teammates reunite often and very much enjoy the lifelong friendships established during his time in the OHL.

The OHL Alumni Association is a member focused organization with the primary function of forming a global hockey based community directed towards strengthening and sustaining the connection and relationship between alumni, the league, and current players.
