NHL Debut: Ethan Cardwell (Oct. 29, 2024)
Tuesday was a night to remember for Ethan Cardwell, who made his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks at the age of 22. Cardwell skated 11:57 and had a plus-1 rating as the Sharks defeated the visiting Los Angeles Kings 4-2.
A product of Courtice, Ont., Cardwell played four OHL seasons between the Saginaw Spirit and the Barrie Colts from 2018-23, producing 94 goals, 106 assists and 200 points over 189 regular season games. He was chosen by San Jose in the fourth-round of the 2021 NHL Draft. In one of his most notable OHL performances, Cardwell scored four goals in a game on Jan. 25th, 2020 against the Hamilton Bulldogs as Barrie won 8-7 in overtime.
In his first pro season last year, Cardwell showed well for the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, producing 43 points (23-20–43) over 71 games. He recorded five points (1-4–5) over six games with the Barracuda to begin 2024-25.
Cardwell’s family, along with his Barrie Colts billet parents were in attendance in San Jose on Tuesday night – a night of celebration after years of hard work.
