Kalvyn Watson commits to Greyhounds
Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. – Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis announced this afternoon the signing and commitment of a member of the club’s 2018 draft class.
Forward Kalvyn Watson (5th Round, 2018) has agreed to a standard player agreement with the Program.
“Kalvyn has been having a great season so far in Lindsay and we are very excited to have him commit Greyhounds,” began Raftis.
“As a highly skilled, high IQ player, Kalvyn will join us over the World Junior break and we anticipate him being a big part of our young forward core in the coming years,” he added.
The 5-foot-9, 161Ib forward started this season (2018-19) with the Lindsay Muskies of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. In 35 regular season games played he was Lindsay’s fourth-leading scorer with seven goals and 17 assists, good for 24 points. He was two points shy of leading the team.
A native of Peterborough, Ont., Watson was originally selected by the Hounds out of the Peterborough Minor Midgets program where in 2017-18 he had 25 goals and 21 assists (46 points) in 33 games played.
“Signing with the Soo was a surreal moment. Getting the opportunity to play in the OHL has been a dream of mine since I was a kid and for it to be with theGreyhounds is incredible. I’m just excited to get things going,” stated Watson.
