Jack Miller set to sign off after iconic 51-year career in hockey broadcasting
A media personality long synonymous with hockey in Belleville, and far beyond, has announced his retirement after an extraordinary 51-year career behind the microphone.
Jack Miller, the recognizable voice of former Belleville Bulls broadcasts and a staple of the local airwaves, has confirmed that he’s calling it a career. In a recent interview, Miller said the time has come to “turn off the microphone and hang up the headphones” so he can slow down and spend more time with his family.
“My departure comes after a full career filled with things I never thought I’d be doing–or even set out to do,” Miller reflected.
Over the decades, Miller carved out a legacy that stretched well beyond Belleville. He covered everything from local sports and news to OHL broadcasts for the Belleville Bulls and later, the Belleville Senators. He hosted Global Television’s televised OHL Game of the Week, served as a colour commentator for the Ottawa Senators and provided a live radio feed from World Junior Hockey Games across Europe.
Miller said he will miss “the sports coverage on the air going around doing hockey games. I did over 3,000 games between, the NHL mostly, OHL, AHL, OJHL. I’ve done them all.”
His contributions were formally recognized on April 22, 2022, when the City of Belleville declared it “Jack Miller Day.” On that day, the press box at the CAA Arena, home of the Belleville Senators, was renamed the “Jack Miller Broadcast and Media Centre” in his honour.
Jack Miller’s final broadcast is scheduled for Friday, August 8, 2025, marking the end of an era for Belleville hockey and Canadian sports broadcasting. You can listen to his farewell, here.
